COURSE DESCRIPTION from the CCAC CATALOG:
Whether you’re an empty nester who is re-entering the workforce, an
entrepreneur who is looking for a way to network, a person seeking his/her
first job, a woman going through a divorce or simply someone who is setting
new life goals, this course can help you get to a destination faster while also
balancing other important areas of life. The course teaches how to take your
interests and channel them into productive career goals. It shows you how to
organize goals into an action plan and move out of your comfort zone to
achieve results with a proven and practical strategy for success. The
principals of this course led the instructor, Mary Lee Gannon, to where she is
today. In 1997, in the midst of a divorce as a stay-at-home mother with four
children under the age of nine, Ms. Gannon realized that she was going to
be the sole provider for her children and herself. Ms. Gannon had a two-year
Allied Health degree and a job in which she earned just $27,000 a year
when she left to raise her children. While her children were young, Ms.
Gannon had done a lot of volunteer writing for organizations and decided to
send clips to a local newspaper. Ms. Gannon was hired as a freelance
reporter and went on to write for a number of other magazines, news and
professional publications. From there she moved on to business writing
consulting and worked as a trade association executive director. With a need
for better health insurance and other benefits, Ms. Gannon entered the
corporate world. She taught herself to write grants and became the executive
director of a hospital foundation. Now at 48, Ms. Gannon is the president and
CEO of a large hospital foundation after only having worked full-time for a
few years. Learn first-hand the strategies that helped Ms. Gannon succeed.
